Moiko

A compact bag that moves with you.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Description

The Moiko is a handcrafted convertible bag by Toja House, designed to move effortlessly between a handbag and a hands-free shoulder or sling bag.

Its compact, softly structured body is handcrafted in tapestry crochet, combining a rhythmic geometric pattern with a considered palette of blue, ivory, ochre, terracotta, and brown.

Moiko features an integrated system of Kumihimo cords and a longer textile strap, allowing the way it is carried to change with the wearer. Pull the Kumihimo cords to gather the opening and create the handbag handles, or use the longer strap to carry Moiko over the shoulder or across the body when both hands need to be free.

The result is a bag designed not only around form, but around the changing needs of everyday movement.

Each piece is individually made by Indonesian women artisans, bringing together traditional textile craftsmanship and contemporary functional design.

Design Inspiration

Moiko was created from a simple intention: to give the wearer the freedom to change the way a handbag is carried.

The design transforms between different modes of use. Draw the Kumihimo cords to create a compact handbag, or use the longer strap when a hands-free option is preferred.

This adaptability reflects Toja House's approach to design—where textile techniques are not simply decorative, but become part of the object's structure and function.

The interplay between the gathered cords, braided strap, and crocheted body creates a bag that subtly changes according to how it is carried.

Craftsmanship

Every Moiko is handcrafted in Indonesia using tapestry crochet and Kumihimo techniques, with meticulous attention to colour, tension, proportion, and finishing.

The patterned body is built stitch by stitch, while the Kumihimo cords are carefully braided and integrated into the construction to allow the bag to transform between carrying modes.

The longer strap is also handcrafted, while leather elements provide a refined contrast to the textile construction.

Each piece requires hours of careful handwork, resulting in subtle variations that celebrate the individuality of handmade craftsmanship.

Care

Moiko can be gently hand washed when the detachable leather elements have been removed.

For regular maintenance, spot cleaning is recommended to preserve the textile's colour, texture, and structure.

When washing, use cold or cool water and a mild, non-detergent soap. Gently hand wash without rubbing or wringing, then reshape the bag and allow it to air dry naturally away from direct sunlight.

Always remove the leather elements before washing.

Avoid machine washing, bleach, harsh detergents, and prolonged soaking.

Store in a cool, dry place when not in use.
